Methods of multivariate Analysis

Book Details:
Title: Methods of Multivariate Analysis
Author: Alvin C. Rencher, William F. Christensen
ISBN-13: 978-0470178966 ISBN-10: 0470178965
Edition: 3rd
Pages: 708
Description:
Filled with new and timely content, Methods of Multivariate Analysis, Third Edition provides examples and exercises based on more than sixty real data sets from a wide variety of scientific fields. It takes a "methods" approach to the subject, placing an emphasis on how students and practitioners can employ multivariate analysis in real-life situations.
This Third Edition continues to explore the key descriptive and inferential procedures that result from multivariate analysis. Following a brief overview of the topic, the book goes on to review the fundamentals of matrix algebra, sampling from multivariate populations, and the extension of common univariate statistical procedures (including t-tests, analysis of variance, and multiple regression) to analogous multivariate techniques that involve several dependent variables. The latter half of the book describes statistical tools that are uniquely multivariate in nature, including procedures for discriminating among groups, characterizing low-dimensional latent structure in high-dimensional data, identifying clusters in data, and graphically illustrating relationships in low-dimensional space. In addition, the authors explore a wealth of newly added topics, including:
  • Confirmatory Factor Analysis
  • Classification Trees
  • Dynamic Graphics
  • Transformations to Normality
  • Prediction for Multivariate Multiple Regression
  • Kronecker Products and Vec Notation
New exercises have been added throughout the book, allowing readers to test their comprehension of the presented material. Detailed appendices provide partial solutions as well as supplemental tables, and an accompanying FTP site features the book's data sets and related SAS® code.
Requiring only a basic background in statistics, Methods of Multivariate Analysis, Third Edition is an excellent book for courses on multivariate analysis and applied statistics at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels. The book also serves as a valuable reference for both statisticians and researchers across a wide variety of disciplines.

The Application of Islamic Criminal Law in Pakistan (Brill's Arab and Islamic Laws Series)

Book Details
Book Title: The Application of Islamic Criminal Law in Pakistan
Author: Tahir Wasti
Series: Brill's Arab and Islamic Laws Series (Book 2)
Hardcover: 408 pages
Publisher: Brill; 1St Edition edition (February 28, 2009)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 9004172254
ISBN-13: 978-9004172258

Book Description
No legal system in the world has aroused as much public interest as Sharia. However, the discourse around Sharia law is largely focussed on its development and the theories, principles and rules that inform it. Less attention has been given to studying the consequences of its operation, particularly in the area of Islamic criminal law. Even fewer studies explore the actual practice of Islamic criminal law in contemporary societies. This book aims to fill these gaps in our understanding of Sharia law in practice. It deals specifically with the consequences of enforcing Islamic criminal law in Pakistan, providing an in-depth and critical analysis of the application of the Islamic law of Qisas and Diyat (retribution and blood money) in the Muslim world today. The empirical evidence adduced more broadly demonstrates the complications of applying traditional Sharia in a modern state.

Control-Based Operating System Design (Iet Control Engineering)

Book Title:  Control-Based Operating System Design (Iet Control Engineering)
Authors: Alberto Leva,
              Martina Maggio,
              Alessandro V. Papadopoulos,
              Federico Terraneo
Publication Date: June 2013
ISBN-10: 1849196095
ISBN-13: 978-1849196093
Book Description:
Control-Based Operating System Design describes the application of system- and control-theoretical methods to the design of computer operating system components. It argues that computer operating system components should not be first “designed" and then “endowed with control", but rather conceived from the outset as controllers, synthesized and assessed in the system-theoretical world of dynamic models, and then realized as control algorithms. The book includes both a theoretical treatment of the usefulness of the approach, and the description of a complete implementation in the form of a microcontroller kernel, made available as free software. Topics covered include modelling and control design paradigms, task scheduling, resource allocation, application performance control, sensing and actuating, and the implementation and assessment of Miosix, a control-based kernel.

  Data Communications And Networking

As one of the fastest growing technologies in our culture today, data communications and networking presents a unique challenge for instructors. As both the number and types of students are increasing, it is essential to have a textbook that provides coverage of the latest advances, while presenting the material in a way that is accessible to students with little or no background in the field. Using a bottom-up approach, Data Communications and Networking presents this highly technical subject matter without relying on complex formulas by using a strong pedagogical approach supported by more than 700 figures.
Now in its Fourth Edition, this textbook brings the beginning student right to the forefront of the latest advances in the field, while presenting the fundamentals in a clear, straightforward manner. Students will find better coverage, improved figures and better explanations on cutting-edge material. The "bottom-up" approach allows instructors to cover the material in one course, rather than having separate courses on data communications and networking.
